PERMIT:
Once you have signed a SPASA approved contract with Neptune the structure & location of the pool has to be approved by local council. In some municipalities a planning permit as well as a building permit are required.
Melbourne Water approval is also required to fill the pool with water. The submission to council will require engineering considerations for your pool & a proposed layout showing offsets & water dimensions, where the equipment is to be located & waste water disposal.
The following information will be required from you ( the client)to aide in, or form part of the permit application.
- Current copy of title
- Architectural layout of the house showing boundaries.
The approval process can take anything from 6- 10 weeks depending on council requirements.
CONSTRUCTION:
Once approval has been granted construction can begin.
The pool is marked out by the construction manager & excavation begins. The Pool contract has rates should the excavator encounter rock or non- structural ground such as fill- if it is evident that there is a problem with the ground it maybe advisable to have core tests done prior to excavation which will help give an indication of additional costs.
When the excavation is straight forward for a normal size pool(( 9 x 4m ) it can be completed in a day.
The next stage of the works is the forming of the pool with the steel reinforcing. Once this is completed the pool can be sprayed in concrete. This concrete will require 21 days to cure before any works can be carried out in the shell.
INTERIOR FINISH:
The options for interior finishes are as follows :
- Exposed pebble hand trowel polished finish.
- Quartzon - render style finish with a range of colour options.
- Fully tiled - number of colours & styles suitable for pool interiors.
All Neptune Pools have a waterline tile included in the standard pool quote.
COPING:
Can vary substantially with modern pool chemicals some of the softer sandstones are no longer suitable. Some of the popular finishes are precast concrete pavers, natural stone, terracotta tiles, bricks, and timber deck.
Considerations for coping should be addressed at the contract stage because it can affect the size of the concrete beam (or collar) around the top of the pool.
FENCING:
All swimming pools need isolation considerations for safety. The position of the pool is often influenced by meeting the Australian Safety Standards. Safety fencing approval is required before the pool can be filled with water.
HANDOVER:
Once the pool is at a practical completion stage Neptune will clean & balance the water, test all the equipment and provide an induction for the new owner on operational use & safety.
