Domestic Pools > Case Study 6
Perched In the hills just outside of Melbourne these clients took full advantage of the spectacular views overlooking the Dandenongs. The grandeur of the setting required a formal approach with an appropriate scale. To tie in with the surroundings, natural materials & finishes were chosen.
The client was also interested in expressing a slight oriental feel to the overall landscape.
The design brief called for simple lines and unobstructed views. The result was an elongated rectangle with a flush natural stone coping. Having grass flow up to the pool edge blended the built elements into the Iandscape beautifully.
The pool fence is cleverly positioned below the brow of the hill allowing the safety requirements to be met without obstructing views. The timber terrace at the southern end ties in with the style & finishes on the buildings.
The black blue blend fine pebble finish to the pool gives it a natural dark reflective quality, & keeping the water level high reinforces a contemplative feel. In keeping with the natural feel, the solar has been cleverly concealed in the ruts of the colorbond roofing. A simple treatment that respects the scale & nature of the site.
