Domestic Pools > Case Study 3
This stunning elliptical pool, designed in conjunction with Leeton Pointon Architecture, is a great example of how the humble back yard pool has now provides the masterful finishing touch to the modern home. This particular home is designed around the pool being the centre of focus to the horizon view.
The horizon edge overlooks expansive gardens wandering down to Melbourne’s iconic Yarra River. The water cascades into a pebble concealed trough and then is recirculated back into the filtration system. Fine polished black pebble lining creates a mirror like surface to the water. A thick sandblasted concrete slab around the pool gives the appearance of a floating deck. A large underwater seat provides the perfect location to relax and enjoy the view.
Structurally the pool was technical to construct and very difficult to set out and maintain the elliptical shape without a template. The pool was formed totally above ground level. Large strip footings were constructed below the floor to support the pool.
A PCC2000 cleaning and salt chlorination system ensures that the pool is always looking good and a dual heating system allows for all year use.
